Here Comes the Sun

It's as if the weather knows when it's the weekend.

We woke up Saturday to 50 degree weather!  I never thought I'd be so happy to see the 50s.  After soccer we headed for Central Park and never left.  We soaked up as much Vitamin D as possible.

As you can see, the lakes are still frozen and there's still plenty of snow on the ground.
The kids zipped throughout the park on their scooters while Kevin and I had a leisurely stroll.  We stopped for lunch at The Boathouse.
We heard singing coming from under an overpass so we went to investigate...
...and discovered this beautiful tunnel and perfect acoustics for these buskers.

We found ourselves at the Central Park Zoo.

And ended the day with a late afternoon coffee/lemonade stop in the park -
bodies warmed, spirits raised.

Ella even got a surprise when Maeve's mom brought her over for a sleepover.

And we got a surprise from cousins Michael and Frances when this beautiful loaf of real San Francisco sourdough arrived in the mail!
How did they know we were feeling homesick??

We had grand plans for Sunday that all went by the wayside when we saw that big, yellow ball in the sky again.  While the temperature had dropped about 20 degrees, it was still bright and sunny out.  So as we were about to head down into the subway on our way to the Morgan Library to hear a reading of The Little Prince and see original illustrations from the first edition, brought up from the Morgan Library vault, we all stopped in our tracks and reassessed the situation.  Do something really cool indoors or make a sharp left back into the park and have a picnic and swing on a tire swing?

Well, a picnic while still wrapped in our down jackets with the sun hitting our faces, is still a picnic.
