100th Blog Post!!!

Bells and whistles!!  Balloons dropping from the ceiling!!!  This is my 100th blog post, people!

And for this Thanksgiving post, I am so thankful for the 7,000 pageviews I've had (33 just today!) and views from places as far away as Alaska, the UK, Germany and China (who are you people?  Please leave a comment and introduce yourselves).

With that said, I am also thankful for a fun-filled week with Kevin's family in New York City.  As you saw in the last post, we started with Maxine and Sean and their girls, showing them ice skating in Bryant Park and the main library.  Kevin's parents arrived on Tuesday night and we walked their poor legs all over the city in weather that kept mostly in the 20s.

Kevin's cousin and his wife were in town for the holidays so we got to have a fun grown-up's night out on the town (babysitter and all).

We hit the American Museum of Natural History (right across the street from Kevin's parents' hotel) and even got to watch as they inflated the giant balloons for the big Macys Thanksgiving Day Parade the next day.

The kids and I split off for a couple hours to quickly visit with our good friends and old nextdoor neighbors in California, SungSim and Matt and their kids Erika and Alex.  We miss them so much and were happy to see them but sad that we only had a short visit.

Thanksgiving morning we rose early and braved the 20-something degree air to get a good spot to watch the parade.  As I mentioned, the balloons were being inflated right in front of Kevin's parents' hotel so we were able to actually get a sweet spot where only people who live or are staying on the block can get into.  It was a block before the parade actually starts, but we got to see the line of floats coming down Central Park West right in front of us, and the balloons as they joined the parade.  It was a once in a lifetime experience.  This time last year we sat on our couch, eating breakfast and watching the parade on TV as we always do, completely oblivious to the fact that we might not only be watching it live in New York this year, but that we would actually be living here!

After the parade we picked up our fully cooked Thanksgiving meal at our local Jewish butcher, Schatzie's.  Here's Schatzie himself, getting into the spirit.

The meal was delicious and we were happy to have everyone at our apartment.  I spent the day thinking of my dad and wishing he were there with us or that I could at least pick up the phone and wish him a happy Thanksgiving.

The next morning took us to my very favorite spot in the city, The High Line.  I've blogged about it many times so I won't bore you, but I will say that every time is different, going in different seasons, seeing different buildings or public art.  It's really so beautiful to walk just above the city.

For my mother-in-law's birthday we surprised her with tickets to see the Radio City Music Hall Christmas Spectacular.  First of all, if you haven't been inside Radio City Music Hall, it's gorgeous.  A curved dome with ornate details.  Perfect for the holidays.  And the show lived up to its name, spectacular.

Leaving the show and walking through Rockefeller Center with the trees all lit up in white lights and the skaters on the rink in the center really put us all in the holiday spirit.

We spent the end of our weekend in our quiet apartment, sleeping in (until 10am for the first time since I've been a mother!) and going to see a movie (Frozen).  As much as we love being with our extended family, the four of us recharge when it's just the four of us.  There's nothing better than spending a lazy afternoon doing a puzzle with your six year-old and listening to your eight year-old sing Christmas carols.

I'm so thankful for the three of them.

And I'm so thankful to have gotten 42 years with such a loving, generous and funny dad.
